The Federal Government of Nigeria orders removal of Corps members, consultants from federal personnel payroll - THENEWSGIST .

The Federal Government has instructed ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to stop including consultants, corps members, contract workers, and other temporary staff in their personnel cost submissions for the 2026 budget.

The directive, issued by the Budget Office of the Federation and signed by its Director-General, Tanimu Yakubu, emphasized that only confirmed government employees should be captured. It warned that any irregular payments would face penalties.

The circular explained that allowances for NYSC members will be handled directly under the NYSC budget, while any extra support from host agencies must come from overhead expenses. It also prohibited agencies from budgeting for unapproved or anticipated promotions.

To improve monitoring, the government is rolling out a digital dashboard connected to IPPIS and GIFMIS that will track personnel spending against approved budgets in real time.

All MDAs are expected to submit their budget details by July 15, 2025, and present a third-quarter review by September 30, 2025.

In a related development, the Budget Office said it will publish the outstanding 2024 budget performance report and delayed reports for the first two quarters of 2025 by September. It explained that the delay was due to verification processes and the shift to a new fiscal framework, but assured Nigerians that regular reporting would resume afterwards.
