The cost of passport now higher than workers’ salary" – Peter Obi laments
Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has criticiz€d the Federal Government over the recent hik£ in the cost of international passports, describing it as another burd€n on struggling Nigerians.
In a post released on Thursday via his X, Obi cond£mned the increase, noting that the new fees have been pegged at N100k for a 32-page booklet and N200k for a 64-page booklet.
“This is the third increase in just two years. In a country where the new minimum wage is only N70k the cost of a single passport now exceeds a worker’s monthly salary, probably the only country in the world to achieve this feat,” Obi said.
He stressed that rather than easing the economic h♤rdship facing citizens, the current administration continues to imp¤se policies that deepen the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
“The obs£ssion of this administration with putting a burd€n on the populace is becoming legendary and continues to reveal its apparent disconnect with the people. It is alarming that the price of an international passport is higher than what workers earn in a month,” he added.
The former Anambra governor urged the government to reconsider the policy, w♤rning that such actions further alienate the leadership from the people they govern.
