Sowore Rejects Call to Join New Political Coalition Aimed at Ousting APC-Led Government
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has firmly rejected calls for him to join a newly formed political coalition seeking to remove the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The rejection came hours after Sowore’s long-time ally, activist Deji Adeyanju, posted an emotional appeal on social media urging him to consider joining the alliance. Adeyanju acknowledged Sowore’s principled stance but argued that the “extraordinary circumstances” in Nigeria required compromise.
“Politics is different from morality and activism; it’s a game of numbers,” Adeyanju wrote. “Even in churches, there are witches and wizards… Please consider joining the coalition, sir. Respect and love always—even if you don’t join.”
But in a fiery response shared via his verified social media account on Tuesday, 2 July 2025, Sowore made it clear that he would not align himself with politicians he believes are responsible for Nigeria’s current state of decline.
In a strongly worded statement, Sowore said:
“I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago.
I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry.
I did not join David Mark when he stole funds meant to fix our telephones and later helped to crush our democratic hopes on June 12.
I have never joined an armed robbery gang. I have never pledged allegiance to any cult—no matter how popular, powerful, or fanciful.”
He continued by declaring his loyalty solely to the people of Nigeria:
“I have only one allegiance: to the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced.
I will join only those ready and willing to end this national nightmare created by these characters listed above!”
Sowore, who has long championed radical political change through his #RevolutionNow movement, made it clear he believes true transformation cannot come from coalitions made up of politicians with a history of corruption and betrayal.
“Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of Nigerians. Nigeria must be free from these evildoers,” he concluded.
The activist’s statement has drawn both praise and criticism online, with supporters hailing his consistency and refusal to compromise, while others argue that political unity is necessary to unseat the APC in the 2027 elections.
As pressure builds for opposition parties and movements to join forces ahead of the next general election, Sowore’s stance reaffirms his belief that systemic change must come from outside the political class—not within it.
